Excerpt:

Pli Commun.e is a multidisciplinary performance that delves into the intersections of visual and performing arts through a powerful act of collective creation. At its heart, this work brings together a group of women artists who collaboratively craft a monumental, living tapestry. This tapestry emerges not only from the physical act of embroidery but also through the embodiment of diverse artistic practices—intertwining movement, music, and visual expression.

Inspired by the iconic Bayeux Tapestry, Pli Commun.e both honors and challenges its historical legacy, using its visual language to interrogate the enduring structures of patriarchy and domination. At the same time, it celebrates the possibilities of female emancipation and the creation of inclusive, shared spaces. Led by Isabel Judez, four artists from varied disciplines—textile art, music, and contemporary dance—come together in an improvisational, organic process. Here, the gestures of embroidery fluidly merge with the rhythms of contemporary dance and music, weaving a multisensory experience.

As the tapestry takes shape, so do the evolving relationships between the artists. The slow, deliberate act of embroidery becomes a powerful metaphor for the often invisible labor of social and cultural repair, as the tapestry begins to embody a collective voice. Iconic scenes from the original tapestry, particularly the depictions of four women under assault, are reinterpreted and reclaimed by the performers, who retell these stories through the creation of this new visual narrative. The result is an ever-evolving piece in which individual actions converge into a collective momentum—symbolizing the intricate dynamics of solidarity and resistance, required to weave an inclusif social tissue.
