Excerpt:

At the intersection of sculpture, textiles, and performance, this immersive installation reinterprets weaving and architecture to question the power dynamics embedded in our social structures. The thread becomes a metaphor for the social fabric, linking intimate memory with collective history. Conceived in dialogue with the flax landscapes of Normandy, it combines locally sourced fibers and stones from social initiatives, affirming an ecological and territorial awareness. Rooted in a collaborative gesture, it is accompanied by a soundscape inspired by Normandy’s landscapes and artisanal rhythms, envisioning an inclusive and sustainable monument.

Imagine a permeable, ecological monument grounded in solidarity

Emerging from long-term research on collective memory, gendered labor, and material resilience, Unweave the Rocks unfolds as a participatory environment where stone and textile become instruments of connection. Conceived in dialogue with the flax landscapes of Normandy, the project brings together artists, artisans, and communities to explore how gestures of making can heal the fractures between people and place.
The work draws on local resources and cooperative processes: linen fibers cultivated and processed by the Terre de Lin cooperative intertwine with stones sourced from the social and educational initiatives of the Fonds de dotation Verrecchia. Their encounter generates a hybrid material, both territorial and political, that reflects the entanglement of ecological and social histories.

The installation takes the form of a living workshop where weaving, assembling, and performance converge. The artists and contributors have created a monumental 23-meter tapestry, unfurling over 42 meters in the honor courtyard of the Musée des Archives and activated during the Nuit Blanche festival, with the support of the Musée des Archives and the City of Paris.

A sound composition featuring a recited poem inspired by Donna Haraway’s Staying with the Trouble envelops the installation, echoing the textures of weaving and stone carving while resonating with the sonic landscapes of Normandy. Through this interplay of materials, voices, and gestures, Unweave the Rocks reimagines the monument as a shared, evolving space of care, memory, and renewal.
